The danger isn't the pump failing, it's what a failed pump lets happen. A flooded basement is wet drywall, soaked insulation, ruined flooring, and damaged belongings, and the clock on mould starts almost immediately:

• Mould can begin to grow within 24 to 48 hours of materials getting wet, according to Health Canada and CMHC guidance, long before a damp basement feels dry again.
• The water is rarely clean. A backed-up basin during a storm can carry groundwater and sewer contamination, which means decontamination, not just drying.
• The cost stacks fast. Flooring, drywall, insulation, mould remediation, and lost belongings dwarf the price of a backup pump and a battery you could have installed first.

Almost every sump pump failure traces back to one of four causes. A power outage stops a pump that has no battery behind it. A volume of water beyond the pump's capacity lets the basin overflow faster than it can clear. A worn-out pump, often a decade or more old, seizes or loses its float. And a stuck check valve or frozen discharge line sends pumped water straight back into the basin.

We design around all four. A battery backup answers the outage. A second backup pump answers the overload. Proper sizing and testing answer age and wear before they strand you. And we verify the float, the check valve, and the discharge run so the water you pump out actually leaves and stays out.
