For Homeowners
When your home is in crisis, you don't have to face it alone.
A burst pipe at 2 a.m. A basement filling with water. Smoke still hanging in the air. Whatever just happened, take a breath, one call puts an experienced restoration team on the way, and we'll take the weight from here.
We're here the moment disaster strikes, 24/7, every day of the year
Emergencies don't keep business hours, and neither do we. Whether it's the middle of the night, a holiday weekend, or the worst Tuesday of your life, a real person answers and a crew is dispatched fast across Toronto and the GTA.
The first hours matter most: water spreads, drywall wicks, and mold can begin within a day or two. Acting quickly is the single biggest thing that protects your home and lowers the final cost, so the moment something goes wrong, call us. We'd rather hear from you early than late.
Not sure what to do first? Start here.
When everything feels urgent at once, a few calm steps go a long way. If you can do these safely, do them, if you can't, that's exactly what we're for.
- Make sure everyone is safe. People and pets first. If there's fire, gas, or any doubt about the structure, get out and call 911.
- Stop the source if it's safe. Shut off the main water valve for a leak, or kill the breaker to an affected area, only if you can reach it without risk.
- Don't wade into standing water. Water and electricity are a dangerous mix, and floodwater or sewage can carry contaminants. Stay back and let the crew handle it.
- Protect what you can, gently. Lift small valuables and photos to a dry spot, but don't put yourself at risk moving heavy or soaked items.
- Take a few photos. Quick pictures of the damage help your insurance claim later. We'll document everything thoroughly once we arrive.
- Then call us. Tell us what happened and we'll talk you through the rest while a crew heads your way.
We handle your insurance claim, right alongside you
For most homeowners, the claim is the scariest part: the forms, the adjusters, the worry about being underpaid or denied. You don't have to navigate that alone. We work directly with insurance companies every day, and we know what they need to see.
We document the damage in detail, photograph and itemize losses, and communicate with your adjuster so the process moves and nothing gets missed. Our job is to advocate for a fair scope of repairs, restoring your home properly, not cutting corners, so you can focus on your family instead of paperwork. You stay in control and informed the whole way; we simply carry the heavy part.
One team, from first cleanup to the final coat of paint
A lot of companies dry things out and then hand you a list of contractors to chase. We don't. Firstline stays with you from emergency mitigation all the way through full rebuild, so there's one accountable team and one clear plan, not a dozen phone numbers.
- Water damage restoration, extraction, structural drying, and moisture monitoring after burst pipes, leaks, and appliance failures.
- Flood restoration, fast response to flooded basements and storm water, including sewage and contaminated-water cleanup.
- Fire & smoke damage, soot and smoke removal, odour neutralization, and rebuilding what the fire took.
- Mold remediation, safe containment, removal, and fixing the moisture source so it doesn't come back.
When the dust settles, we put your home back together, drywall, flooring, paint, and finish carpentry, until it looks like the disaster never happened.
Why homeowners trust us in their worst moment
Inviting strangers into your home after a disaster takes trust, and we don't take that lightly. Firstline is licensed, fully insured, and WSIB-covered, with a 5-star rating from neighbours across the GTA who were once standing exactly where you are now. You'll get straight answers, respectful crews who treat your home like their own, and clear communication at every step, no jargon, no pressure, no surprises. We measure our work by one thing: a family that can finally exhale because their home is safe and being made whole again.
What happens after the emergency call
The first visit starts with safety, source control, and a complete damage map. We check the affected room and the paths water, smoke, or contamination may have taken into adjoining spaces. The crew records conditions before moving materials, then explains what can be cleaned or dried in place and what may need controlled removal.
During mitigation, equipment and containment are adjusted to the property rather than left on a fixed schedule. Moisture readings, photos, disposal records, and progress notes support the restoration plan and the insurance file. Once the site is stable, the repair scope is confirmed so cleanup does not end with open walls or an unfinished room.
Home restoration FAQ
What should I do before the restoration crew arrives?
Keep people and pets away from the damaged area. If it is safe, stop the water source and shut off electricity to wet rooms. Take a few photos from a safe position, then leave materials in place so the crew can document conditions before cleanup begins.
How do you find water hidden behind walls or floors?
The crew combines a visual inspection with moisture readings and, where useful, thermal imaging. Readings are compared across affected and unaffected materials to map how far water travelled. That map guides selective opening, equipment placement, and daily monitoring until the structure reaches an appropriate dry condition.
Will I need to leave my home during restoration?
Not always. The decision depends on electrical hazards, contamination, fire or structural damage, air quality, and whether essential rooms remain usable. We explain which areas must be isolated and whether phased work can keep part of the home occupied safely. Your insurer may also address temporary accommodation.
Does home insurance cover water or fire restoration?
Coverage depends on the cause of loss, your policy, endorsements, limits, and deductible. Sudden insured events are treated differently from maintenance problems or excluded flooding. We document the damage and work scope for your adjuster, but the insurer makes the final coverage and payment decision.
How long does structural drying take?
Many water losses require several days of controlled drying, but material type, saturation, temperature, access, and hidden cavities all affect the timeline. Equipment should not be removed because surfaces feel dry. We monitor moisture readings and adjust the drying plan until the affected assemblies reach a documented target.
Can Firstline rebuild after cleanup?
Yes. When damaged drywall, flooring, trim, cabinetry, insulation, or other finishes must be removed, Firstline can coordinate the repairs after mitigation and required approvals. The repair scope is separated from emergency work so you and your adjuster can see what was stabilized, what was removed, and what must be rebuilt.
